BBC Gardeners World Live NEC APL Avenue

The Winners of this years competition.

Exclusive Show Garden Competition 2024

APL Designers and Landscaper members were invited to participate in an exclusive competition to build a Show Garden at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2024.

The winning of a BBC Gardeners’ World Live medal provides valuable accreditation to their company/practice.

The Competition Brief

The theme of 2024 APL Avenue Show Garden was “The Good Life”.
This can mean many things to many people and therefore can be interpreted in a number of ways!

“The Good Life” could simply be the opportunity to use the garden space for relaxing, entertaining, eating drinking.

A garden full of structure and low maintenance planting to simply sit in and enjoy those warm summer evenings. This could be the client’s good life.

It could also be a garden packed with nature, Biodiversity at its core... not only supplying a good life for the client, but for the world around the space you have created.

Or if you are of an age and remember the BBC
hit show “The Good Life” the design could focus on sustainability and self-sufficiency taking in ideas around recycling, upcycling, and re-using. A garden packed with ideas, making valuable use of every square metre of space.

The Winners

Notes from the Mediterranean

“Notes from the Mediterranean” celebrates the timeless beauty of the region, drawing inspiration from the landscapes of Greece, Italy, and France. The garden welcomes visitors with soft, warm colour tones and natural stone elements that evoke the sun-drenched vistas of the Mediterranean.

Costa Cadiz

The ‘Costa Cadiz’ garden showcases, in a small and transferable scale, the landscape of the province of Cadiz on the southern Atlantic coast of Spain. It reminds many of the ‘Good Life’ that we live whilst away on holiday in warmer climates. Corten steel raised planters depict the red cliffs of this coastline, and sandstone balls represent the rocks and boulders that dot its length.

Lunatica

Lunatica is a garden about water health and security within Britain in 2024.

The garden responds to the theme ‘a good life’ as clean healthy water is vital for all forms that a good life would take.

The name comes from the twice daily influence that the moon has on the bodies of water on our planet – and indeed the plants. Luna – moon, ‘tica’ – nautical sounding…
